“When wisdom meets code, the Dharma travels without borders.”

Digital Resources

Overview:

Since 2009, Esukhia has been at the forefront of Buddhist digital innovation. From digitizing the Tibetan Kangyur and Tengyur to developing cutting-edge NLP tools, we've consistently worked to make Buddhist teachings accessible through technology.

Current Initiatives:

Our digital work focuses on three interconnected platforms:

Pecha.org: A comprehensive digital library of Buddhist texts (similar to Sefaria for Jewish texts or Bible.com), making traditional wisdom accessible to modern practitioners through searchable, interconnected texts with translations and commentaries.

Sherab.org: Our learning platform (powered by Open edX) offering structured courses on Buddhism and Tibetan language, featuring video lectures, reading materials, and interactive assessments.

Mobile Applications: Bringing Buddhist teachings to your fingertips through apps for both Pecha and Sherab platforms, featuring practice guidance, reference materials, and educational content.

Technology Partnerships:

We collaborate with key partners to advance Buddhist technology:

OpenPecha: Supporting digital text infrastructure and content engineering for Buddhist texts.

BDRC (Buddhist Digital Resource Center): Working together on text digitization and preservation.

Monlam AI: Building OCR, speech-to-text, and machine translation models to increase accessibility of Buddhist texts.

Berkeley University: Co-training state-of-the-art translation models for Tibetan-English Buddhist texts.

Open Data Initiatives:

We are committed to contributing to and promoting open Buddhist and Tibetan language data through:

  • Collaborative contributions to Wikipedia and Wikisource

  • AI-powered text processing with human-in-the-loop content workflows

  • Ensuring high-quality, freely accessible, authentic Buddhist resources are integrated into AI platforms

  • Supporting multilingual access to Buddhist wisdom across as many languages as possible
